Looking for the best headphones for Kemper to practice quietly in your room and generate your own amp profiles? I’ve got you covered. Using a Kemper through headphones can also help you figure out and improve subtle details in your tune. This way, you can put a more consistent effort to make your guitar sound better.
You need a high-quality pair of headphones for the purpose of sound mixing. While open-back designs are my personal favorite as they sound incredibly natural, closed-back headphones work well too.
To help you make the right choice, I have narrowed down the choices to 3 products. Here are their detailed reviews to make you understand why they make such a great bargain for the money.
01. Sennheiser HD 660 S
No products found.
These open back, hi-res headphones incorporate 150-ohm impedance transducers to generate ultra-natural sound when connected to a Kemper. The controlled diaphragm movement in these specialized transducers minimizes sound distortion. It also matches to ± 1 dB tolerance to help you improve the sound of your guitar.
One of the biggest plus points of 660 S is that it doesn’t color the sound much. What you get to hear is as close to the studio recording as possible. I also loved the fact that it doesn’t push the high frequency too much, thus making the high-ends sound crisp.
It pumps out a clear and punchy bass. It won’t make you trippy but you will still end up tapping your feet without evening realizing. This is exactly the kind of bass you need if you are serious about mixing.
02. HIFIMAN SUNDARA Over-Ear Full-Size Planar Magnetic Headphones
No products found.
The sound of Sundara is vivid, full of life and incredibly detailed. The primary reason for this is the ultra-thin diaphragm that juices out excellent clarity and avoids distortion at highs. The mids are decent but it makes the vocals sound a bit too polished which I personally don’t mind. The low end is punchy.
The bass of Sennheiser HD 660 S has more groove but this one is more detailed and refined. You have to decide what floats your boat the best. The great emphasis on clarity in the treble creates a much deeper and wider soundstage than most other audiophile headphones in its price range.
Besides that, the build quality and comfort of these open-back headphones spot-on as well. You can keep the headphones on for hours which fatiguing your head and neck.
The earcups are highly breathable and keep your ear sweat-free. Considering the the quality of drivers, diaphragm and audio clarity, it costs way less than most other headphones having similar features and functionality.
03. STAX SR-007A MK2 Electrostatic Earspeakers
No products found.
Manufactured in Japan, these beautiful silver, dynamic headphones delivers a satisfying sound. Well, almost as satisfying as you could expect while playing through a high-quality amp.
This results from the latest hardware upgrade in MK2. Unlike MK1, this one has no internal cover which was earlier creating pressure on the cable. In MK2, The manufacturers have laid down BluTack putty on the holes left exposed after removing the internal cover.
It focuses more on transparency by increasing the sub-bass and reducing the mid-bass. Combined with a wide soundstage, the audio of MK2 sounds more natural and vibrant than many of its costlier counterparts.
The bass is groovy and has great clarity but it not a relaxing, atmospheric bass. Special mention to the sound imaging too. The overall sound is extremely well-defined, helping you clearly separate the sound of each instrument.
